About

Poetry has a bad rap these days.
It’s the way it is taught in schools,
It’s the way it is broken up into rules,
And calculated in classrooms
Where you dare not miss a beat or you won’t get it.

The worst thing you can do to a poem is analyze it.
The only way to understand a poem
To truly understand
Is to experience one
And read it aloud
Without feeling silly.
So put away your literary protractor,
Put away your argument and your theory.

Poetry is not exclusive.
Poetry is not serious.
Poetry is not profound.
It is words and rhythm.
An attempt to describe
What cannot be described,
And whatever else you want.
